Description: 蓮如上人と毛糸の帽子（泉福寺）/ The statue of Rennyo with green wool hat京都を追われた蓮如上人を匿ったのが、堅田の人々でした。比叡山延暦寺の衆徒は堅田の真宗門徒を攻撃します（1468年、堅田大責）。町を焼かれた人々は琵琶湖の沖島に逃げ、二年後に戻ってきます。”Rennyo (蓮如) (1415-1499) was the 8th Monshu, or head-priest, of the Jōdo Shinshū sect of Buddhism, and descendant of founder Shinran”.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rennyo) Katata has the history which protected Rennyo, and is a religious town of Rennyo.Enryaku-ji temple considered that Rennyo and his temple Hongan-ji (in Kyoto) the enemies of the Buddha, and Enryaku-ji oppressed them. Hongan-ji was destroyed and he led the life as a fugitive.He stayed at Honpuku-ji temple in Honkatata and waited for the time of revival in 1467. Enryaku-ji attacked Katata with force in 1468 (it is called Katata Ozeme). He gave up making Katata into headquarters. It is because Katata was close to Enryaku-ji.In April, 1471, he went to Echizen Yosizaki which was a still more distant place from Kyoto.
